For centuries soapmakers in the beautiful region of Provence have been using the most luxurious of all oils to craft by hand the purest of all French soaps - Savon de Marseille. Today, only one such soapmaker guards this ancient tradition in the heart of Marseilles - Savonnerie Le Sérail.
Marseilles Soap (French milled soap with oil-based fragrance)
Why is it so special?
Loyal admirers of Marseilles soap recognize it for its gentleness and cleansing properties. It is known to lather well and rise off completely and since it does not strip the skin of its natural oils, it is considered a natural moisturizer.
Savon de Marseille soap flakes are made from copra and palm oils. For best results, dissolve 1/2 cup of soap flakes in 1 gallon of warm water. Recommended for hand-washing of delicate fabrics such as wool, cashmere, silk, linen, flannel, chiffon, cotton, lace and down. Soap flakes can also be used with washing machines. Pour 1/2 cup of soap flakes directly into the machine and choose a cycle that uses at least 86 F (30 degrees Celcius) water.
